As the impact of climate change is being felt and experienced by many communities, our mandate to Do The Right Thing compels us to take more proactive, measurable steps during these exceptional times.

Our architects, planners, and designers are deeply committed to being part of the solution. We seek to be continuously informed by the latest sustainable design thinking and building innovations, engage owners early in the design process on how sustainability principles could be applied to their projects, and work with our design partners to apply them to generate the most impactful outcome.

Marshall Craft is a signatory of the AIA 2030 Commitment with targets to improve building energy efficiency, conserve natural resources, and reduce carbon footprints in new buildings and renovations. This collective AIA commitment aims to achieve net-zero carbon-emitting energy use in buildings by 2030.

We put our commitment into practice by developing and implementing our Sustainability Action Plan. This plan highlights our capabilities as an environmentally conscious design firm, incorporates several of our existing practices, such as the Marshall Craft I GreenTalk™, and further defines the scope of our commitment.

Notable Firsts

MCA had always been at the forefront of sustainability design before becoming an AIA 2030 Commitment signatory by achieving several notable firsts:

With the renovation of Chincoteague Hall, Marshall Craft designed the first LEED Gold Certified renovation for the University of Maryland flagship campus at College Park.

Marshall Craft designed the first LEED Platinum Community College facility in the State of Maryland (and one of the first LEED Platinum Higher Education Facilities), with the Chesapeake College Health Professions and Athletics Center.

Marshall Craft designed Cecil College’s Engineering & Mathematics Building, the first LEED Gold Certified project on that campus.
